Join the Laboratory of Nutrient Metabolism and Biochemical Physiology

We are committed to mentoring and supporting the next generation of scientists as they explore fundamental questions in metabolism and physiology. We believe that impactful science happens in an environment built on collaboration, curiosity, and integrity. Our lab welcomes researchers from diverse backgrounds who are excited about discovery and eager to grow—scientifically and professionally.

We aim to create a dynamic and inclusive research environment where all members feel valued, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential. If you are enthusiastic about biochemistry, physiology, and the molecular basis of nutrient action, we encourage you to reach out.

Research Training

Depending on interest and project alignment, lab members may gain experience in areas such as:

  • Nutrient sensing and metabolic signaling

  • Mouse physiology and metabolic phenotyping

  • Molecular biology and gene regulation

  • Enzymology and biochemical pathway discovery

  • Targeted and untargeted metabolomics using mass spectrometry

We are dedicated to providing rigorous scientific training, along with opportunities for professional development in writing, presenting, and leadership.

Opportunities

Postdoctoral Fellows

We welcome applications from motivated and independent scientists with training in biochemistry, physiology, molecular biology, metabolism, mass spectrometry, or related fields. To apply, please email Dr. Wei Wei a cover letter detailing your research interests, your CV, and the names and contact information of three references.

Graduate Students

Prospective graduate students should apply through the Biochemistry or Integrated Program in Biochemistry (IPiB) at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Admitted students interested in rotating in the lab are encouraged to contact Dr. Wei with a CV and a brief summary of research interests.

Research Associates / Technicians

We welcome individuals with a strong undergraduate background in the life sciences who are interested in gaining hands-on research experience before pursuing graduate or medical training. Positions are typically for two years. Please send a cover letter, CV, and contact information for two references to Dr. Wei.

Undergraduate Students

We support undergraduate students interested in laboratory research and are happy to discuss opportunities for term-time or summer work. Please email Dr. Wei with your CV and a brief note on your interests and availability.
