Principal Investigator
Asst. Prof. of Biochemistry
Zhenyu Lyu, Ph.D.
Postdoc
Zhenyu received his Ph.D. from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. His previous research focused on investigating the functions and mechanisms of naringenin in skeletal muscle metabolism. He then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Currently, in the Wei Lab, he is employing untargeted metabolomics to study metabolic alterations in obesity and age-related chronic diseases. Outside of the lab, he enjoys sports, music, and photography.
Ruida received his B.S. in Biomedical Science from Southern University of Science and Technology in 2024. His previous research focused on investigating the role of a transcription factor and the phosphoinositide signaling pathway in the DNA damage response of cancer cells. Outside of the lab, he enjoys swimming, cooking, and playing video games.
Ruida Li, B.S.
Graduate student, CMB Program
Merissa received her PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her MA in Biotechnology and BA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Boston University. Prior to coming to UW-Madison, she worked as a research associate in the Center for the Development of Therapeutics at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Her research interests include probing protein-ligand and protein-protein interactions for therapeutic targets and investigating disease pathways. Outside the lab, she enjoys running, cycling, hiking, and working with animals.
Merissa Brousseau, Ph.D.
Postdoc
Rowan received her B.A. in Biochemistry and Mathematics from Bates College in 2023. Before joining the IPiB program she worked as a research technician at Brigham and Women’s hospital studying HIV latency, latency reversal and viral escape from novel treatments. Outside of lab she enjoys reading, running and seeing live music.
Rowan Hassman, B.S.
Graduate student, IPiB program
Boyuan Wang, B.S.
Research Intern
Boyuan received his B.S. in Biological Sciences from Nankai University and previously worked as a Junior Specialist at UCSF, where he studied stem-cell–derived islet biology and spatial transcriptomics. His research interests lie in the mechanistic study of metabolic regulation and signaling pathways using genomic and proteomic approaches. Outside the lab, he enjoys running, skiing, collecting electronic hardware, and working on cars.
